Project Description:

This project will construct a new east-west freeway extending from Truxtun Avenue to Heath Road. Phase 2 includes a six-lane freeway from Mohawk Street to Allen Road (4.25 miles) with full interchanges at Mohawk Street, Coffee Road, Calloway Drive, a bridge at Jewetta Avenue, and sound walls adjacent to residential areas. The Truxtun Tie-in (Phase 4) will complete the eastern end of the new freeway between Mohawk Street and Truxtun Avenue.  A full interchange will also be constructed where Allen Road crosses over the Westside Parkway.  Construction on the final segment between Allen Road to the Stockdale Highway/Heath Road intersection will begin in summer 2013.  (See "Mohawk Street" for information on Phase 1.)

Project Status:
Construction started in early 2010 on Phase 2. Bridges have been constructed at Coffee Road, Calloway Drive, Jewetta Avenue and at the Friant-Kern Canal and paving for the freeway lanes is underway. The Truxtun Tie-in is under construction and bridge construction is finishing up at Allen Road.  A portion of the Westside Parkway extending from Truxtun Avenue to Allen Road will open in late summer 2013.

The California Transportation Commission has authorized $26 million under the State Transportation Improvement Program for Phase 6 of the Westside Parkway. The funds will allow the City to complete the final two miles of the Westside Parkway between Allen Road and the intersection of Stockdale Highway/Heath Road. The City has awarded a construction contract for this phase of the project.  Construction will start in summer 2013, and will take approximately 18 months to complete.

TRIP breaks ground on final phase of the Westside Parkway in March 2013.
